Deurali Filmcraft and Mahanta Shrestha joined hands to produce a documentary based on Jung Bahadur Rana (JBR), first Nepalese Prime Minister to visit United Kingdom in the early 18th century. JBR was in fact the first person from the South East Asia to embark on such a journey during those times and that too at the official invitation of Queen Victoria.
The documentary is being conceptualised and directed by Ashish Pant, a dynamic, creative person and business man in London. The project is being financed by Mahanta Shrestha, a renowned philanthropist and business man, widely respected in Nepalese and British community.
At present, a research team headed by Dr. Ramesh Dhungel is doing an in-depth research on the project. A very strong and experienced advisory board of Kamal Mani Dixit, Purushottam SJB Rana, Sagar SJB Rana, John Whipton and Pro.Dr. Yagyan P Adhikari are providing guidance and assistance.
Research part will be completed by end Aug 2009. Filming will commence from Nov 2009, thereafter post production work for 4 months and the completed project will be available for broadcast by end Apr / early May 2010.
This is a documentary based on historical research. We will explore WHY / WHEN / WHERE / HOW and will concentrate on PEOPLE / PLACE / PAPER. The documentary aims to visualise what happened when JBR ruled, why he came to the United Kingdom, what all happened when he was here and what happened when he returned back to Nepal.
One of the most notorious and dreaded event in our history at the time of JBR rule is the KOT Massacre. Till date the place where the massacre happened is off limits to the general public. We plan to obtain a special permit to film on the location exactly where that incident took place. This is one of the main highlights and interesting part of the documentary. Our aim is to produce a documentary based entirely on the actual historical research and documentary evidence. Nothing will be added or deleted and neither do we aim to glorify or condemn anything or anyone. |
